Alice S. Austin, 80, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2013 in Clarks Summit.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hermon with Rev. Robert Browning officiating and burial in Hermon Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Hermon.

Alice was born on September 25, 1932 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Anna Tennis Shackelford. She graduated from Academy high school, Erie, PA and from Cedarville University in Ohio with the Class of 1955. Alice married Richard C. Austin on July 2, 1953 in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Alice worked alongside her husband who was a pastor in various communities for nearly 60 years. As an accomplished musician, she often served as the choir and music director, pianist, organist, and soloist for the church services. Back in the 1950's, the couple first served the First Baptist Church of Canton. Alice and Richard were involved in a missionary program in Martinique of the French West Indies for over 20 years and were part of the First Baptist Church of Dania Beach, Florida for 20 years. They also ministered in Churches in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

Alice is survived by her husband of sixty years, Richard; two daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Wayne Wright of Clarks Summit, PA, Elizabeth and Scott Buffenbarger of Bealton, VA; three grandchildren and their spouses; and three great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that any funds be directed to the Alice S. Austin Memorial Fund, the proceeds of which will be directed to the Youth Camping ministry, in Martinique FWI .
