Alfred W. Lewin, 69, formerly of Potsdam

Mr. Alfred W. Lewin, age 69 of Sterling, and formerly of Potsdam, passed away on December 15th in Syracuse, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21st at 12 noon at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the West Stockholm Cemetery in West Stockholm. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Contributions in Mr. Lewin’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Lewin is survived by a son, William Lewin; a daughter, Laura Lynne (Ray) Abrams; a brother, Alton Lewin; sisters Aletha Kennedy and Alice Beesaw; grandchildren Kimber and Zachary Lewin and Alex, Hannah, Bailey and Paige Abrams; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alfred W. Lewin was born on January 2, 1943 in Potsdam, to Morris and Ethel Cramer Lewin. He attended rural schools in Sanfordville. He served in the United States Air Force from April 28, 1961 until his honorable discharge on April 27, 1965. On May 7, 1965 he was married to Patricia G. Gilman in West Stockholm.

Mr. Lewin worked at the Potsdam Paper Mill for a few years. He then worked on a farm in Parishville for a few years and then for the Eakins Farm in Hopkinton, for many year until his retirement in 2006.
