Funeral services for Albert R. Gray, 88, a resident of United Helpers Maplewood Campus, will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Jones, officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Canton. Mr. Gray passed away on Monday, June 07, 2010 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
There will be no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to United Helpers Maplewood Campus, Canton Volunteer Fire and Rescue or to the Canton United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Gray are two brothers, David Gray and his wife Dorothy of Evans Mills and John Gray of Gouverneur; a sister, Sadie Farnsworth of Heuvelton; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Albert was born on April 21, 1922 in Toys Hills, Ontario Canada, an area flooded to create the seaway, son of the late Ross and Alice (Patrick) Gray. He attended area schools. Mr. Gray worked farming in the area and was employed by St. Lawrence University in the buildings and grounds maintenance department.
Albert was a past member of the Canton and Morley Volunteer Fire Departments, Canton Sportsman’s Club, the Canton, Morley and Rensselaer Falls Grange, and member of the Canton Methodist Men’s Club. Albert was an active member of the Canton United Methodist Church parish, where he volunteered a lot of time for various church functions; he was also past “lay person of the year”. He also enjoyed Latch Hook Rug making.
