A memorial funeral service for 86-year-old Mrs. Adele Mary Nickerson of Potsdam will be held Wednesday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus, Canton, with Robert Schirmer officiating. A spring burial will be in the Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam, date and time to be announced.
Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam on Tuesday, March 5 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, March 6 at the United Helpers Maplewood Chapel from 1:30 until the time of the memorial at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Nickerson died at the Maplewood Campus in Canton on March 2, 2013, where she had been a resident for several years.
Arrangements for Mrs. Nickerson’s services are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Sweet and her husband Timothy Sweet of Hudson, New Hampshire; a son, Robert Nickerson and his companion Lynne Fintel of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Abby Nickerson, Allison Nickerson, Nickolus Sweet and Kaylon Sweet. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. Adele was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter, one brother, Frank Yuchno and three sisters, Helen Toth, Geneva Molnar and Mildred Glover.
Mrs. Nickerson was born in Massena on November 30, 1926, the daughter of Andrew and Katherine (Lachtara) Yuchno. She graduated from Massena High School and received her Nursing degree from Nursing School in Plattsburgh. She was married to Walter B. Nickerson on September 2, 1950 at the St. Mary’s Rectory in Massena. Mr. Nickerson died on January 12, 2005.
Adele was a member of the Potsdam United Methodist Church. Before entering the Nursing Home, Adele enjoyed flower gardening, interior decorating and fashionable clothing.
