Funeral services for Abraham Lawrence Jerue, 102, of 1208 Ford St., Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Msgr. John Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Jerue passed away peacefully at his home Saturday morning, May 29, 2010.
Mr. Jerue is survived by one son, Richard, of Ogdensburg; a special nephew, Royal Martin and a special neice, Linda Herteau, both of Ogdensburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold, and his sister, Josephine.
Mr. Jerue was born on October 14, 1907 in Ogdensburg, the son of Abraham and Sarah Larre Jerue. He attended local schools.
He married Geraldine (Ruby) Satterle on October 9, 1940 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. E. W. McFadden officiating. Mrs. Jerue passed away April 11, 1999.
Mr. Jerue served in World War II. He first landed in Normandy, then served in Germany and Belgium where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked for Smith and Russell Garage in Ogdensburg. Later he went into partnership with Ray Coakley, selling house trailers. In 1950, he established Jerue’s Garage on Ford Street and operated it until 1988.
His hobbies included fishing and working on old televisions and radios.
