Youth Conservation Corps receives donations from Massena organization, Heuvelton business

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), a summer program that employs adolescents ages 14-21 to conserve the environment of St. Lawrence County, has relied mostly on donations this year.

The program is run by the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau Department, and has been active in the county for 35 years, but due to economic reasons has not received as much government funding as in past years.

Youth Bureau Director Joanne Sevick has been working hard to contact businesses and organizations throughout the county. So far 11 companies have been generous enough to donate a total of $9,340. This money is used to employ the Crew Members, Crew Supervisors, Crew YCC Coordinator, YCC Media Relations Coordinator, and to buy equipment. The money is also being used to fund Mt. Arab Kid’s Day and the YCC Recognition Day.

YCC is grateful to Chambers Trucking and the Massena Elks for their donations. Bob Chambers of Chambers Trucking funded safety equipment for YCC this year. The Massena Elks Club B.P.O.E 1702 donated $100 towards the summer program.
