CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Youth Conservation Corps Canton Crew has been busy at Lampson Falls and Indian Creek clearing trails, helping to build a bridge, cutting down branches, and weed-whacking.
DEC Senior Forester John Wood said he was grateful for the crew’s work at Lampson Falls.
The crew, led by Crew Supervisor Adam Randall, cleared a trail and helped to rebuild a bridge that was destroyed in the spring floods. He commended the crew for their hard work despite hot weather and bugs. Wood said he was “very impressed” with the work
Roger Hutchinson, director of the Indian Creek Nature Center, also said he was pleased with the crew’s labor. In past years YCC constructed the whole boardwalk at the Nature Center and is now working to clear the plants and trees interfering with it. They will continue their environmental work at other sites throughout the summer.
The crew enjoys the hands- on conservation work. Eric Sibbitts says they “work and have a good time.” Ben Fuller claimed that the best part of the job is working outside.
Adam Randall, a second-year supervisor for YCC, has earned the respect of the crew by leading and working with them.
So far, the crew has been ahead of schedule every day.
