POTSDAM -- The youngest person ever elected to the Town of Caroline Council will be the keynote speaker at this year's North Country Food Day Youth Summit, a biennial event put on by GardenShare.

Dominic Frongillo made history by becoming the youngest person ever elected to the town council in the Town of Caroline and served as one of the youngest Deputy Town Supervisors in New York.

Internationally recognized for his work on clean energy, Frongillo is a five-time delegate to the United Nations climate negotiations, is trained by Vice President Al Gore as Climate Reality Presenter, and served under Governor David Paterson helping create New York's 2050 Climate Action Plan.

In 2012, when fracking for gas threatened the state, Frongillo co-founded Elected Officials to Protect New York, a bipartisan initiative of 850 officials from all 62 counties to keep fracking out of the state, contributing to New York’s 2014 statewide ban on fracking.

The Youth Summit, which will take place at SUNY Potsdam Thursday Oct. 22, invites high schools from the North Country and Adirondack region to participate in workshops focused around agriculture, nutrition, and food security.

In addition to his keynote, Frongillio will lead a workshop focused on leadership and change making skills. Other workshops include food careers, nutritious snacks, and school gardens.
