Workman, Stewart lead Hammond Central Class of 2015

HAMMOND -- Hammond Central School’s Class of 2015 valedictorian is Lauren Workman and salutatorian is Casey Stewart. They also have three honors students, Zechariah Davidson-Cunningham, Brennon Shippee and Hayden Kline.

Workman, daughter of Jamey Wilkenson and Ronald Workman will graduate with a 95.1 average. She attended the Clarkson School this year and participated in the Adirondack semester this spring. She has been accepted at Hobart and William Smith college and will pursue the environmental studies and sustainability program.

While at Hammond, Workman was active in Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Spanish Club, Science Club, Mock Trial, NYSSMA solos, Area All-State, soccer, softball and cheerleading. She has earned an advanced Regents diploma with majors in math, science and Spanish.

Workman received the Clarkson School Award, The Clarkson Leadership Award and the University of Rochester George Eastman’s Young Leaders Award. She is also an RPI Medal nominee.

Stewart, son of Russell and Susan Stewart, finishes with a 3.75-year average of 94.7. He has been accepted at SUNY Plattsburgh and Elmira College. He wants to pursue a major in biology and pre-veterinary.

Stewart is a National Honor Society student. He has been involved in Spanish Club, Science Club and Mock Trial for four years. He played baseball for three years and has earned Academic All-Northern awards. He performed in the senior play for the past two years.

Stewart was nominated for the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award, the St. Lawrence Augsbury Scholarship nominee and the RIT Innovation and Creativity Award. He was a member of the Scientific Myth Buster Team at Clarkson University where Hammond’s team members were awarded $20,000 in scholarships.

He will graduate with an advanced Regents diploma with majors in Spanish, math, science and English. He will have also earned 15 college credits form SUNY Canton.

This year’s third honor student is Zechariah Davidson-Cunningham, son of Shelly and Marty Youngs and Phillip Cunningham, with a 3.75-year average of 94.2. He has been accepted at Clarkson University and LeMoyne College for pre-med and biology.

Davidson-Cunningham plays soccer, basketball and has received Academic All-Northern awards for each sport. He is also involved in Student Council, Yearbook, Spanish Club, Science Club and Mock Trial. He participates in NYSSMA, band, chorus and jazz band.

Davidson-Cunningham is a National Honor Society member. He is a tour guide at Singer Castle and a dockhand at Schermerhorn Landing. He was nominated for the Clarkson Achievement Award and the Augsbury Scholarship. He received the University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award and the Air Force Math and Science Award.

He will graduate with 15 SUNY Canton credits and 7.5 credits from NCCC through the allied health program. He will also graduate with an advanced Regents diploma with majors in math, allied health, science, English and Spanish.

The fourth honor student is Brennon Shippee, son of Nicholle Shippee, with a 3.75-year average of 90.7. He has been accepted at Albany College of Pharmacy, LeMoyne College, Jefferson Community College and the College of St. Rose. He wants to pursue pharmacy.

Shippee will graduate with nine college credits. He was enrolled in the pharmacy tech program at the Northwest Technical Center. Shippee was also nominated to receive the Student Sage Award and the RIT Computing Cup Award.

He played soccer and earned Academic All-Northern awards. He participated in Student Council, Science Club and is a National Honor Society member.

The fifth honor student is Hayden Kline, with a 3.75-year average of 90. He is the son of Robert and Amanda Kline. Kline will graduate with an advanced Regents diploma with majors on math, science, Spanish and business. He has applied to JCC, North Country Community College, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Potsdam and Paul Smith’s College.

Kline received the University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology. He will attend Paul Smith’s to study environmental science and forestry.
