POTSDAM -- Some of the new pavement on the refurbished Maple Street bridges across the Raquette River is to be torn up and repaved starting on Thursday.
Weather permitting, with milling scheduled for Thursday, the main job could be finished with paving on Friday.
There will be work on both of the twin bridges, and in both lanes. There will be no detour, said Michael Flick of the state Department of Transportation’s Region 7 office. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers through the work zone.
Follow-up work, including cleanup and putting down new markings and stripes, will likely take the work into early next week, said Flick.
The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of rain on Thursday. If the weather is bad, the work could be delayed.
Vector Contracting of Syracuse did the $3.7 million job on the bridges last fall, but it was discovered that some of the paving materials used were substandard, according to Flick.
“We do indeed have some issues with some of the paving materials,” Flick said last November when the deficiency was discovered.
“There will be no additional cost to the state,” Flick said. “It is something that will have to be resolved between the contractor and the supplier.”
