BRASHER — Multiple fire departments from St. Lawrence County were unable to save a barn from burning Tuesday morning on County Road 55.
“Upon arrival the barn was fully engulfed and there was heavy black smoke,” said North Lawrence Fire Chief Eric LaBrake.
The barn was used for a trapping business and was owned by Jason Coughlin.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1414 CR 55 around 9:10 a.m.
“We put water on a nearby house to help prevent the fire from spreading,” LaBrake said. “Then we quickly put the fire out.”
LaBrake said Coughlin believed the fire originated from a woodstove that he had stoked earlier that morning. Fire investigators confirmed later in the morning that the woodstove was the cause of the blaze.
Around 30 firefighters were on scene from North Lawrence, Lawrenceville, Brasher-Winthrop, Helena and Nicholville. Tri-town Rescue was also on scene.
No injuries were reported.
The barn was reportedly not insured.
