CRANBERRY LAKE – A woman was seriously injured Sunday after the tube she was riding on in Cranberry Lake deflated and the rope wrapped around her leg.

St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies say Joyce E. Horton, 36, Pine Bush, was riding on the tube with her son, Luke C. Horton, 8, when the incident occurred.

She was being pulled behind a 2004 Sweet houseboat equipped with a 90 hp Mercury enginen operated by Charles E. Hancock, 61, of Pine Bush, deputies said.

Joyce Horton received a severe laceration to the back of her calf and was transported to Clifton-Fine Hospital, Star Lake, by the Cranberry Lake Rescue Squad. After she was stabilized, she was transported to University Hospital, Syracuse, deputies said.

Other passengers on the boat included Jamie L. Christopher, 36, Patricia A. Hancock, 58, Charles E. Hancock, Jr., 32, Noelle N. Horton, 15, and Gabriel E. Horton, 11, all of Pine Bush, deputies said.

No summons was issued, deputies said.
