MASSENA -- The state Attorney General’s Office is pressing charges against a former St. Regis Nursing Home certified nursing assistant for lying about injuries sustained by an elderly resident in a fall.
Crystal Burdick, 30, of Moira is charged with a felony count of falsifying business records, a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a physically incompetent person and willful violation of public health law.
Court documents state that on July 8, she didn’t follow proper procedure to report a 95-year-old woman had fallen off of a toilet.
Instead of immediately reporting the incident to a nurse supervisor, she put the woman back on the toilet, court documents state. Burdick is alleged to have lied about the incident and told officials that she grabbed the woman by a gait belt and prevented the fall, and the injuries she sustained came from the belt slipping. The woman’s injuries were mostly bruises, according to court documents.
Court documents state that all falls are to be documented and the woman should not have been moved without a nurse supervisor being present.
Burdick was arraigned in Massena court and released on her own recognizance.
