MASSENA -- A Winthrop man is facing charges after allegedly trying to drive his car down railroad tracks while intoxicated and then abandoning it after getting stuck.
Nathan B. Arquiett, 21, of Lincoln Bridge Road is charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree governmental administration, failure to keep right, driving on the shoulder, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, illegal U-turn and obstructing a railroad crossing.
Police said early on Sunday morning, they got a call saying someone in a car was trying to drive on the railroad tracks on South Main Street. After getting stuck, the driver, who police said was Arquiett, left the car. Chief Adam Love said officers used their K9 unit, Joker, to track him down in a wooded area near South Raquette Road. He allegedly gave an incorrect name when questioned, the chief said.
He is to appear in court on a later date.
