A winter weather advisory is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 1 a.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. on Wednesday as a half foot of snow could hit the region creating hazardous conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Today will be the calm before the storm with mostly sunny skies and a high around 20 degrees, the service says.

A winter weather advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Plan on slippery road conditions, and reduced visibility at times including on the morning commute Tuesday, NWS says. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are expected in parts of the North Country.

Snow will begin around midnight tonight with 2 to 4 inches possible overnight and into the morning with a low around 16, forecasters say. Another 1 to 3 inches of snow is likely Tuesday night with an overnight low of 13 expected.

Snow is likely on Wednesday, but no real accumulation is projected by forecasters.

Expect cold weather following the storm before things warm up a bit into the 30s for the weekend.
