Winter will make an appearance this afternoon with snowfall moving into Northern New York During the early to mid-afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Snow amounts of 3 to 6 inches are likely across the St. Lawrence Valley with snowfall tapering off after midnight tonight, forecasters say.
Snow will likely move into the area early this afternoon and persist well into the evening hours. Snow could be moderate to heavy at times at the onset.
Gusty southeasterly winds of 20 to 30 mph will also likely develop this afternoon and accompany the snowfall.
Snow will begin to taper off after midnight tonight and will be replaced by drizzle or freezing drizzle, the service says.
Gusty southwesterly winds will develop during the day Saturday as the system responsible for this active weather exiting the region, the service says.
Travel could be difficult at times as roads are expected to be snow covered with limited visibility, the service says.
Sunday and Monday will be chilly but drier but another potent system moves into the region on Tuesday which looks poised to bring another widespread snow event to the North Country, forecasters predict.
