Winter Weather Advisory issued through Valentine's Day afternoon; hazardous travel and low visibility expected

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the North Country through tonight and into Valentine’s Day due to possible snowfall.

The advisory began at 1 p.m. Thursday and will remain in effect through 1 p.m. Friday, the service says.

Snow accumulations of up to six inches are possible, with up to one inch an hour at times, particularly Friday morning.

Hazardous travel is expected, with visibility as low as one mile at times, according to the NWS.

Light snow is forecasted for tonight and into Friday morning, tapering off to scattered showers by tomorrow afternoon, the service says. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 20’s.

This Afternoon: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 28. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow. Low around 17. Northeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday: Snow showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 28. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 18. Southwest wind around 9 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 27. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. West wind around 9 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 12. West wind around 9 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -9. West wind 3 to 8 mph.

Washington's Birthday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 17. Southeast wind around 8 mph.

Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 34. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
