A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight as a low-pressure system will bring two to four inches of snow across the North Country , according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will climb to around 22 degrees today and snowfall will begin to taper off this tonight, the service says.
Skies are expected to be cloudy early this evening before clearing up and dropping temperatures to around 0.
There is a 30 percent chance of snow on Thursday with highs near 19 and wind chill values as low as 2 below zero, the service says.
The service says cold temperatures and clear skies are expected through early next week.
There forecast for the rest of the week is as follows:
• Tonight A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 7pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 0. North wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
• Thursday A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 19. Wind chill values as low as -2. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
• Thursday Night A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 10. Wind chill values as low as -4. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
• Friday Mostly cloudy, with a high near 22. Southwest wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
• Friday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph.
• Saturday Partly sunny, with a high near 22. West wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. Light and variable wind.
• Sunday A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 22. Northeast wind around 5 mph.
• Sunday Night A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Monday Mostly cloudy, with a high near 17. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph.
• Monday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 0. West wind around 9 mph.
• Tuesday Partly sunny, with a high near 17. West wind around 8 mph.
