Winter weather advisory in effect in North Country; hazardous driving, power outages, low visibility expected

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for northern St. Lawrence County which will remain in effect from midnight Monday through 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated Tuesday along with isolated power outages from heavy snow and gusting winds, the service warns. Visibility may drop below one mile at times tonight and Tuesday.

Heavy wet snow with a possible accumulation of three to seven inches is expected, according to the service. The snow is expected to begin around midnight tonight, becoming heavy at times.

The snow will likely taper off to rain and snow showers Tuesday morning, followed by additional snow Tuesday afternoon, the service says.

The weather will clear early Wednesday morning, the service predicts.
