St. Lawrence County's largest communities will soon begin or have already started their winter parking ban with snow season underway.
A winter parking ban in Canton begins Wednesday, Nov. 26. Between November 26 and March 31 parking is prohibited between 2 and 6 a.m. on village streets. Parking in municipal lots has already began from 2 to 6 a.m. and runs through April 15. Cars parked in violation of the ban will be ticketed and/or towed at a cost to the car owner.
During the winter months, permit parking is available in the rear of the municipal lot north of Main Street between Riverside and Hodskin streets. Permits, which cost $30 per month, $55 for two months or $125 for the season, are available from the Village Clerk’s office in the Municipal Building (60 Main Street, next door to McDonalds).
The Ogdensburg parking ban runs from Dec. 1 through March 31 from 1 to 7 a.m.
The parking ban in Massena is from 2 to 6 a.m. and runs through March.
The seasonal parking ban in Gouverneur has already started and runs through April 15. The ban is from 2 to 6 a.m. each day.
In Potsdam, vehicles parked in municipal lots, other than in those designated for overnight parking, must be removed between 3 and 6 a.m. to allow for snow removal. Those not removed are subject to towing.
