As winter approaches, unseasonably warm weather in North Country to continue; rain predicted Thursday

North Country weather this month, warm for less than a week until winter officially arrives, is expected to continue on the mild side, with highs in the upper 30s and 40s and lows in the upper 20s into the 40s for the next week, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today skies will remain mostly cloudy with the high temperature reaching the mid 40s

Skies will clear a little tonight, with lows in the mid 30s, before rain develops tomorrow and highs reach the upper 40s, the NWS says. The chance of rain is 80 percent tomorrow, with as much as a quarter inch predicted to fall during the day as the rain continues into tomorrow night, with lows in the mid 30s.

The chance of precipitation continues at 30 percent for Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of snow mixing with the rain predicted for Friday night into Saturday.

Skies are expected to remain cloudy through the weekend with the chance of possibility rising early next week, the forecasters say.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. East wind around 6 mph.

• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. East wind 6 to 11 mph becoming south after midnight.

• Thursday: A chance of showers before 9am, then rain, mainly after 9am. High near 49. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Thursday Night: Rain, mainly before 1am, then a chance of showers after 1am. Low around 36. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind 6 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Saturday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. West wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

• Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind 11 to 15 mph.

• Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. West wind 9 to 11 mph.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. South wind around 9 mph.

• Monday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 43. South wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Monday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 36. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph.

• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
