CANTON – The winners of the annual JDM Music Awards were recently announced.
The awards are named for Jesse D. McCarthy, who died in a car accident Sept. 17, 2009. Jesse loved the guitar and especially playing the blues.
After his accident his aunts started a scholarship in his memory for students interested in pursuing music.
Depending on what the students’ interests are, the committee tries to help the students with expenses for things like voice and instrument lessons and instruments.
In April there was a music festival to raise money for the fund, and for the last four years have hosted a JDM “Pride & Joy Motorcycle Ride.” At the end of the ride they announce the winners, based on applications from students in grades 5 thru 12 explaining what they are involved in and what music means to them.
This year’s winners are, in the photo from left to right, Amanda Jo Mason, Canton; Brianna Hammond, Waddington; Elexa Pleasaid, Canton; Brody Erwin, South Colton.
