CANTON – The windy conditions Saturday had Canton police responding to several calls for trees blown down and taking down wires.
A major trouble spot was State Street near Pearl Street late in the morning, when a tree fell down, blocking the U.S. Rt. 11/ State Rt. 68 detour for several hours until National Grid could remove arcing wires and the tree limbs. In addition to police, several Canton Fire Department volunteers came out to help with traffic control.
Rt. 11 traffic was routed through the Main Street construction zone until the detour was cleared.
Another power outage was reported at about 8:30 p.m., which affected residents of the east side of the village extending to the intersection of Rts. 11, 68 and 310. Canton police were at the intersection until power was restored about two hours later.
