Wind chill near -40 likely today in St. Lawrence County; frostbite possible in as little as 10 minutes, forecasters say

A wind chill warning is in effect through 7 a.m. Friday in St. Lawrence County with temperatures expected to be around -4 and wind chill values as low as -39, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Skies will be sunny but that will not help keep things any warmer, forecasters say. An overnight low of -19 with wind chill values of -28 are likely.

Winds will be dangerously cold with frostbite possible in as little as 10 minutes, NWS says. Hypothermia and death are possible due to the extremely cold weather if precautions are not taken.

Expect the below zero temps to continue into early next week, the service says.

Friday’s high will be near zero with wind chill values of -30, NWS says. The overnight temp will drop to around -18 with wind chill values of -28.
