A wind advisory is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 1 p.m. today through 11 a.m. Thursday as strong and gusty winds up to 50 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph or more are expected, NWS says. Winds this strong can making driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Caution is advised when driving.
The strongest winds will occur between 3 and 10 p.m. today and again from 2 until 9 a.m. on Thursday, the service says.
Isolated to scattered powered outages from downed limbs and trees are possible, NWS says.
Rain and snow showers are likely this morning, becoming all snow after 3 p.m with cloud skies and a high near 36, the service says. Less than a half an inch of snow is possible.
Tonight the low will be around 19 with southwest winds of 22 to 24 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph, NWS says.
The forecast for Thursday calls for a 30 percent chance of snow showers in the early afternoon with a high near 25. Winds will continue through the afternoon.
