STAR LAKE -- The Wilderness Health Care Foundation’s sixth Charity Golf Classic held on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Clifton-Fine Golf Course raised nearly $20,000, a tournament record, say organizers.

Proceeds from the tournament are used to support Clifton-Fine Hospital serving the picturesque western Adirondack community that shares its name.

The hospital is New York’s smallest.

This year, proceeds from the tournament will be used to replace broken and aging equipment; a new phlebotomy chair for Clifton-Fine Hospital's lab and new ultrasound stimulation equipment for the hospital's physical therapy department.

Heavy overnight rain passed and opened up a beautiful day for the tournament’s 64 golfers.

Winners were as follows:

• Men’s Team -- Randy Hayes, Pete Hayes, John Adami and Mike Pickering;

• Mixed Team -- Jim Rice, Sandy Rice, JJ Rice and Adam Szlamcynski;

• David Welch hit the Men’s Longest Drive;

• Sandy Rice hit the Women’s Longest Drive; and

• Closest to the pin winner, on both holes, was Pete Hayes.

Runners Up were as follows: Men’s Team -- Bob Raymo, Pat MacKay, Jerry Cooper and Hank Moshano; Mixed Team -- Roger Folsom, Deb Folsom, Melissa Streeter and Robert Streeter.

The Wilderness HealthCare Foundation credited all sponsors, golfers and donors for making the tournament a success.

Organizers of the event specifically recognized its Platinum sponsors: Community Bank N.A., Fust Charles Chambers LLP, Catherine Rice, Allen and Marilyn Splete, Todd’s Supply Inc.--True Value and Kinney Drugs Foundation.

Next year’s tournament will be held Aug. 4, 2018.
