Wet weather, maybe with some snow, headed for North Country, forecasters say

Saturday started in the North Country with sunny skies but will end with showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two late this afternoon and continuing through Monday, maybe with some snow mixed in Sunday night and Monday, the National Weather Service predicts.

A cold front is moving east from the Great Lakes into northern New York late this afternoon. It will bring rain showers late this afternoon and tonight, with a slight chance of a thunderstorm possible.

Highs today will be in the mid 60s before dropping into the 40s tonight, the NWS forecasts.

Colder weather will be over the north country Sunday and Monday along with a chance for more showers. Sunday’s high is expected to only reach into the mid to upper 40s with lows Sunday night in the 30s

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A chance of showers before 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 4pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 67. South wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, then showers after 9pm. Low around 45. Southwest wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Sunday: Showers. High near 47. West wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Sunday Night: Rain showers before 2am, then rain and snow showers likely between 2am and 5am, then snow showers likely after 5am. Low around 34. West wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Monday: Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all rain after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 57. West wind 7 to 9 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Light northwest wind.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39. Calm wind.

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. Calm wind.

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.
