POTSDAM -- Women from West Stockholm and Russell have been charged in an case of alleged embezzlement investigated by state police.
Brenda L. Thornton, 36, West Stockholm, was charged in Canton Thursday with two felonies, third-degree grand larceny and 10 counts of second-degree forgery.
Malissa A. Hale, 40, Russell, was charged with two counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, Thursday afternoon, and was issued an appearance ticket.
Thornton is former executive director of Citizens Against Violent Acts and former executive director of the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce.
Troopers said the case was first reported to them on Nov. 18.
