POTSDAM -- Welcome-back festivities for the NCAA Division I champion Clarkson Golden Knights women' hockey squad at Cheel Arena are slated for today. Doors open at 3:45 p.m., the team will return at 4 p.m.
Following a short ceremony at ice level, there will be a free skate with DJ V, the team and fans until 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome.
The Golden Knights won the national title against the top-ranked Minnesota University Golden Gophers at Quinnipac University by a final tally of 5-4. Sophomore Shannon MacAulay scored the game-winning marker with less than five minutes left on the clock.
It was the first crown for any sport on Clarkson history. They were the first team since 2001 that claimed the D1 banner and is not from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Clarkson ended the season with a 31-5-5 overall record.
