Weather Service warning of hazardous conditions, mixed precipitation in St. Lawrence County through Tuesday

A winter weather advisory warning of potential hazards from mixed precipitation in the North Country has been posted by the National Weather Service, effective from 1 p.m. today until 7 a.m. tomorrow.

A warm front will lift northeast into the region this afternoon and evening, the NWS says, and widespread precipitation is expected to develop as a result. The precipitation will begin as a wintry mix in mid-afternoon and tonight before changing over to rain Tuesday morning. Light ice accumulations are expected, the NWS says.

The warm front moves north of the St. Lawrence Valley early on Tuesday and rain is expected for all areas as highs climb into the 40s, according to forecasters.

Highs today will be in the mid 30s with northeast winds of about 12 mph

Tonight, temps will actually rise to around 38, with rain and snow.

Tuesday highs will climb to the mid 40s with gusty winds.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A chance of snow before 2pm, then snow and sleet likely between 2pm and 4pm, then sleet after 4pm. High near 33. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Tonight: Rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 2am, then rain and snow between 2am and 4am, then rain likely after 4am. Temperature rising to around 38 by 5am. East wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Tuesday: Rain. High near 46. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tuesday Night: Rain likely before 1am, then rain and snow likely between 1am and 2am, then snow likely after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 15. Southwest wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 18. West wind 11 to 14 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -2. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 12. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 1. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Light and variable wind.

• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

• Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

• Saturday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 35. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
