The National Weather Service says a rainy Wednesday night will give way to an unseasonably warm Thursday.

Meteorologists say there is a 100 percent chance of rain Wednesday night in Star Lake and Gouverneur, with 90 percent odds in Massena, Potsdam, Canton and Ogdensburg. Temperatures are forecast in the mid 50s.

On Thursday, forecasters say there is a 30 percent chance of showers countywide, with temperartures climbing up to the mid 60s.

Thursday night is forecast to be mostly clear with temperatures in the mid 30s, giving way to a sunny Friday with temperatures in the mid 40s, obliterating any hope of a white Christmas.

The NWS say Friday night will be partly cloudy and just above freezing, bringing in a sunny Saturday with temperatures in the mid 40s.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of rain after 4 p.m. Areas of dense fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 56. East wind 5 to 11 mph.

Wednesday night - Rain, mainly after 8 p.m. Low around 52. East wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8 a.m. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Christmas day - Sunny, with a high near 45. West wind 6 to 9 mph.
