Weather service: Rainy week in St. Lawrence County should give way to sunny Christmas

National Weather Service forecasters say after several days of rain, the sun should return for Christmas day.

Sunday is predicted to be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the low 30s, giving way to a cloudy night with temperatures in the high 20s.

Monday brings a 60 percent chance of rain in most areas, with Massena and Ogdensburg looking at 70 percent. Temperatures are predicted in the low 40s. The nighttime forecast is similar, with the rain chance rising to 70 percent in most areas with tempertures hanging around 40.

Tuesday is looking at a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain with temperatures in the high 40s, with p.m. hours bringing clouds and temperatures falling to the mid 30s.

Wednesday is forecast to have a 40 percent chance of more rain with thermometers showing in the high 40s. Night hours bring 50 to 60 percent chances of rain with temperatures jumping to around 60 degrees.

The NWS says showers are likely on Christmas Eve with temperatures approaching 60 and a mostly cloudy night.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Sunday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Sunday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. South wind 7 to 14 mph.

Monday - A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10 a.m., then rain showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 43. South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday night - Showers likely, mainly before 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday night - Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 46. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday - Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday night - A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. West wind 11 to 13 mph.

Christmas day - Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. West wind 10 to 13 mph.

Friday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Saturday - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.
