The National Weather Service has St. Lawrence County under a hazardous weather outlook through Thursday night in anticipation of a couple inches of snow and wintry mix precipitation.
The NWS predicts snow after 3 a.m. Thursday, no more than a half-inch. They are calling up to 70 percent chances countywide.
They say most of the county is looking at a 100 percent chance of wintry mix on Thursday. Meteorologists say snow, freezing rain and sleet is possible before 4 p.m., bringing up to 2 inches of snow.
Temperatures are predicted as high as 37 degrees in most of the county, with Star Lake looking at a high of 45, the NWS said.
There is up to an 80 percent chance of rain Friday, with temperatures countywide predicted in the mid 40s.
The detailed forecast for Potsdam:
Wednesday night - Snow likely, mainly after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Thursday - Snow and sleet before 4pm, then sleet, possibly mixed with rain. High near 37. Northeast wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Thursday night - Rain. Temperature rising to around 42 by 5am. East wind 11 to 14 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday - Rain likely, mainly before noon, then a chance of drizzle after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. West wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Friday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 46. Calm wind.
Saturday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Calm wind.
