Warm weather today, snow possible over weekend as temperature drops

One more day of warmth is on tap as southerly winds and early sunshine help warm temperatures into the 50s today, but cooler air returns tonight as a cold front sweeps through the area.

Rain showers will be scattered along the front as it passes. Snow showers will linger over the Adirondacks and northern Green Mountains through Saturday evening. Temperatures will return to seasonably cool readings near or a bit below normal.

The weekend forecast follows:

A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a southwest wind 13 to 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight A chance of rain and snow showers before 3am, then a chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 31. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday A slight chance of snow showers before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 36. West wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph.

Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. West wind 9 to 14 mph.

Sunday Night A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38.
