How long into November will the warm weather that has been blanketing the North Country last?
If the National Weather Service is right, we could get more this week and next.
According to Weather Underground (wunderground.com), the average high temperature at Massena on Nov. 9 is 40 degrees. The average low is 25. The records show that temperatures on this date have been as high as 70 – a record which the National Weather Service said could be broken today -- and as low as -15. At www.usclimatedata.com, the average daytime high for all of November is listed at 43, and the average overnight low is 28.
By those measures, it looks like we will be returning to more normal temperatures Thursday night, but then they will rise again over the weekend and into next week, when highs of around 60 are forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
Clouds, along with a chance of showers, are the main weather features through Friday night. There is also a chance of snow showers
Cloudy skies are predicted to dominate through early next week.
The National Weather Service forecast:
Tonight: A chance of rain overnight. Increasing clouds, with a low around 47. South wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Thursday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 54, but dropping later in the day. Southwest wind between 10 and 14 mph, with gusts nearing 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of rain before midnight, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between midnight and 3 a.m., then a slight chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Veterans Day: A slight chance of rain and snow showers in the morning, then a slight chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. West wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 18 and 21 mph, and gusting as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Friday Night: A chance of snow showers, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Saturday: Cloudy, chance of rain, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation 30%.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55.
Sunday Night: Cloudy, 30% chance of showers, low around 38.
Monday: Cloudy, 40% chance of showers, with a high near 60.
Monday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 37.
Tuesday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
