Warm, sunny weekend in St. Lawrence County expected to give way to rainy Memorial Day

The National Weather Service says people camping for Memorial Day weekend should be able to stay dry through Saturday and Sunday, but may want to pack raincoats for Monday.

Forecasters say Saturday should be sunny with temperatures around 60 degrees, and a few degrees cooler in the higher elevations. Tonight, that is expected to drop to the mid 40s, with partly cloudy skies.

Sunday is forecast to be sunny with temperatures in the 70s, getting to a high of 77 in Ogdensburg. River communities could see some breeze throughout the day.

Meteorologists say Sunday night should be clear, with temperatures in the mid 50s. Gouverneur and Star Lake are looking at a 30 percent chance of rain, according to the NWS.

While Memorial Day is expected to bring temperatures in the high 80s in western St. Lawrence County, there is a 60 percent chance of showers in most communities, with 40 percent odds in Massena.

Showers are expected to continue through Monday night and could give way to Tuesday thunderstorms.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Today - Sunny, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 11 to 16 mph.

Tonight - Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Southwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Sunday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 56. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Memorial Day - Showers likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday night - Showers likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday - A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Tuesday night - A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
