MASSENA – The man who organized a game between local hockey players and Montreal Canadiens alumni in Massena a year and a half ago is looking for teams to play the alumni again in a softball game at Alcoa Field Aug. 26.

Mike Gagner said he has one team and a few other players lined so far. He wants three teams of 10 players each to play the Habs for three innings each.

“What I'm looking for is ... either two teams comprised of 10 players per team or enough individuals to make two teams to play the Montreal Canadiens alumni hockey team in a game of softball,” said Gagner in an email announcement.

Gagner helped arranged the February 2016 hockey game between the Habs alumni and local players for the annual Winter Chill celebration in Waddington, Louisville and Massena.

This summer he’s raising money for next February’s Winter Chill.

No contract for the game has been signed yet, but Gagner says when he has the players lined up, he believes the arrangement will be agreed.

Players, men or women, must be 35 or older and be willing to sell 20 tickets each in order to play.

Players will also be eligible to take part in a home-run derby..

The game will be nine innings. Each team will play three innings.

Presale tickets are $10 each.

The game is set to start at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 with a rain date of Aug. 27 at 7.

Local players can also pay to be on the Canadiens’ team as players or as coaches. People will also have a chance, with a VIP ticket, to meet and greet the Habs at a tailgate event.

Gagner says there will also be children’s events.

Gagner says any players or teams who are interested should contact him right away at 315-212-7410. Spots are “first-come, first-served.”
