WADDINGTON – For the second year in a row, Waddington is the apparent second-place finisher in the World Fishing Network’s “Ultimate Fishing Town” contest.

That means the community will receive $5,000 to support local angling activities and facilities.

While the cable television network does not plan to make an official announcement of the winners in the online contest until June 6, Waddington appears to have notched second place with 79,559 votes, behind first place Olcott Beach, NY with 135,042.

Those were the totals at 5:59 p.m. Thursday, just before voting concluded on www.worldfishingnetwork.com at 6 p.m.

The contest started on April 2, and those supporting particular communities that were nominated as the “Ultimate Fishing Town” could vote four times daily.

Cape Hatteras, NC, was the apparent third place winner, with 38, 615 votes before the contest came to an end.

Olcott Beach, as the grand prize winner, will receive $25,000 to benefit fishing in the community, as well as a short television feature about the area. Cape Hatteras will get $2,500.

Last year, Waddington’s prize of $5,000 last year was largely contributed to organizations that enjoy and promote fishing in the area, including the Waddington Fish and Game Club, FISHCAP, the St. Lawrence River Walleye Association, and the St. Lawrence Valley Sportsmen’s Club.
