WADDINGTON – Town Supervisor Mark Scott said the 25 temporary campsites at Leishman Point and plans for permanent sites are in line with the town's strategic community development plan.
A committee led by Councilor David Putney hopes to have the temporary sites established in time for the Evan Williams Bassmasters Elite Series, which runs from Aug. 8-11 and is expected to draw many contestants and spectators to the area..
The sites would be available for recreational vehicles, campers and tents. The sites will include potable water and temporary toilet facilities, according to Scott.
"Establishing campsites on the unused town properties is right out of our community plan," Scott said. "It's something we have been working on for a while."
Scott said the town hopes to have the sites available for the Bassmasters tournament as well as Waddington Homecoming.
Scott said details on the project will be available at the June 11 meeting along with updated plans for four permanent sites, which will also be located on Leishman Point.
Scott said he is pleased with the committee moving forward with plans established in the strategic community development plan that was completed in 2012.
The town also recently secured a $30,000 grant from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency for renovations to the Old Town Hall, which was also included in the plan.
