POTSDAM – A Waddington man turned himself Monday after fighting a police officer and driving drunk Saturday, May 9, according to Potsdam police.
Brian M. Clookey was charged with felony driving-while intoxicated, third-degree attempted assault, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, failure to obey a police officer, no seat belt, failure to signal, failure to keep right, improper turn, and passing a red light.
Police said on May 9 at 2:22 a.m. they attempted to pull Clookey over for passing a red light at the intersection of Market Street and Sandstone Drive.
He reportedly failed to stop and continued driving to Clarkson Avenue where he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into the woods.
He resisted arrest and threw several punches at the officer and was able to escape into the woods and get away, officers said.
A warrant was later issued for his arrest and he turned himself in to the Potsdam Police Department Monday at 4 p.m., police said.
He was arraigned by Judge Garner and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1,500 bail and $3,000 bond.
He is to appear in court to face the charges at a later date, police said.
Potsdam police said they were assisted on scene by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies and state police.
