WADDINGTON – A Waddington man could spend up to 16 years in prison for rape and other charges following a Monday jury decision.
Patrick Wright, 31, of Waddington was convicted Monday with third-degree rape, three counts of criminal sexual act, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child.
A statement from the office of St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary Rain said the jury trial lasted four days and concluded with six hours of deliberation.
Wright was remanded without bail by county court Judge Jerome Richards and is scheduled for sentencing on April 21 at 9:15 a.m.
Wright faces a potential of 16 years in state prison.
The D.A.’s office released the following statement following the conviction announcement.
“We respect the decision of the jury. Mr. Wright stands convicted of serious crimes against a 15-year-old child. Now Justice must take its course with the sentencing of Wright. It is my sincerest hope that he receives an appropriate sentence for these crimes. My thoughts now remain, as they have throughout this trial, with the victim and her family. I only wish that somehow the sentence could ease the victim's pain, yet understand that this is something this child will now have to carry the rest of her life.”
