MASSENA -- A Waddington man is jailed on drug and weapons felonies stemming from a March incident.

Brandon A. Dutton, 34, of Lagrasse Road is charged by Massena police with felonies including six counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count each of third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is also charged with misdemeanors including seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. He is also faced with violations and traffic infractions that include unlawful possession of marijuana, suspended registration and no insurance, police said.

Dutton is accused of possessing cocaine, pot, drug paraphernalia and six illegal knives, according to documents filed with Massena Village Court.

On March 16, police investigated what Chief Adam Love described as “suspicious activity” in the Walmart parking lot. They called in a drug-sniffing K9, who alerted to the vehicle. An interior search yielded 12.27 grams of cocaine, a glass pipe with burnt cocaine residue, 4.28 grams of pot, three daggers and three gravity knives, the documents state.

The weapons charges were elevated to felonies because Dutton has a misdemeanor and a felony on his record, the documents say.

Love said they took custody of the vehicle and Dutton was at the scene, but had to investigate, find out to whom the contraband belonged and get an arrest warrant, Love said.

Dutton was arraigned Tuesday in Massena Village Court by Justice Eric Gustafson and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
