Waddington man arrested in Sunday robbery at Dollar General

WADDINGTON -- A Waddington man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the robbery of the Dollar General store Sunday.

Fox was arraigned in Town of Waddington Court before Town Justice Larry Sears. He was released under the supervision of probation and given a return court date of June 1 at 4 p.m.

Investigators sought the public's help in identifying a male suspect in a surveillance photo taken Sunday night at the Waddington Dollar General during the robbery.

Troopers said a white male suspect entered the store at 11997 State Rt. 37 at about 8:39 p.m., made a purchase and left the store. He then walked back into the store at about 8:46 p.m. and walked around the aisles of the store, allowing other customers to leave, investigators said.

Then he approached the register to purchase a piece of candy, and as the clerk opened the register drawer and the suspect gave money to pay for the candy, he forcibly grabbed about $80 cash.

The suspect fled the store on foot running east towards Geneva Street.

The suspect was described as white, approximately 5'10," thin build, possibly early 30s, clean shaven, with short dark-colored hair, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans, sneakers, and a black ball cap with a gray bill and gray Under Armour logo on the front.

Early reports that a knife was used in the robbery are not accurate based on information provided by investigators.

“Apparently the suspect was wearing a sheathed knife on his waist, but it never came into play during the robbery. It was not presented, threatened or brandished,” police said.
