WADDINGTON -- Waddington has fallen behind a Lake Ontario town in the Ultimate Fishing Town contest from the World Fishing Network.

A little more than a week remains in the online contest that promises a $25,000 community donation to be used for fishing related causes and promotion in the winning town. A television feature about the winning town will be produced and broadcast on the World Fishing Network, WFN. And WFN will visit the winning town for a check presentation and media event.

Olcott Beach, on the Lake Ontario shore about 50 miles west of Rochester, had more than 81,000 votes late this afternoon, while Waddington’s tally was approaching 58,000 votes. The next closest contender is Cape Hatteras, N.C., lagging behind with 14,000 votes.

Waddington had been in the lead a week and a half ago. They came in second last year.

Voting closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 31.

Supporters can go to http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/uft/home.php and vote four times a day, once each between midnight and 6 a.m., 6 a.m. to noon, noon to 6 p.m., and 6 p.m. to midnight. Bonus points can be earned by referring a friend, sharing on Facebook or Twitter, or listing a business.
