Still facing the strain of reduced aid from New York State government, St. Lawrence County school districts have put forward their budgets for next school year to be voted on Tuesday.

Voting hours vary from district to district. In Potsdam, hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., in Canton from noon to 9 p.m., in Ogdensburg from noon to 9 p.m., in Massena from noon to 8 p.m. and at Norwood-Norfolk from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Voters will pass judgment on school budgets, school board candidates and propositions, such as those for the purchase of new buses.

Massena’s budget calls for a 1.86 percent tax levy increase. If it passes, the new tax rate will be $18.44 per $1,000 of assessed value. That means the owner of a $90,000 piece of property would be taxed about $1,659.

Potsdam Central’s spending plan comes with a proposed 2.49 tax levy increase with a $23.02 per $1,000 tax rate. A $90,000 piece of property would be taxed about $2,071.

The Norwood-Norfolk budget calls for a 1.90 percent tax levy hike.

Canton Central is eyeing a 4.93 percent increase to their tax levy.
