St. Lawrence County choosing local, state representatives today; voter guide available from state League of Women Voters

St. Lawrence County voters are choosing their representatives today, and the New York State League of Women Voters is providing information to help ensure voting goes smoothly.

The league is offering an electronic voters’ guide, through www.Vote411.org, with information on the candidates in the Nov. 6 general election.

The guide contains information provided by candidates, absentee ballot information, ballot proposition information (where applicable), ID requirements, military and overseas voting information, polling place locations, and voter qualifications.

Anyone with any questions about where or how to cast a ballot should view the website or call the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections at 379-2202.

Any voters displaced by the hurricane who may be staying in St. Lawrence County can still cast a ballot here in the North Country.

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order allowing voters who are resident in the federally declared disaster counties of Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester and of New York City (which includes Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond) to vote with an affidavit ballot at any poll site in New York State, other than their regular poll site.

According to the order, every board of elections in the state shall transmit the completed affidavit ballot of any voter who resides in one of those counties to the board of elections where such voter is registered to vote to be canvassed.

The affidavit ballot can only be counted for those contests where the voter was entitled to vote.

New York City residents displaced in St. Lawrence County could still vote on national candidates but would not be able to vote on local or state representatives.

For information on candidates and races see our elections page.
