OGDENSBURG -- The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking nursing home volunteers.

Sponsored by the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, the program provides volunteer visits to nursing or adult homes to provide companionship and ensure that resident rights are protected.

Volunteers must be empathetic, diplomatic and have good communications skills. All volunteers are certified after training by local program staff.

The ombudsman will help residents improve their quality of daily life and advocate on the resident’s behalf when problems arise.

Volunteers are expected to dedicate about four hours per week to a local facility.

To volunteer contact Winny Sachno at Catholic Charities in Ogdensburg, 393-2255.
