POTSDAM -- Village officials are seeking residents to serve on a Climate Smart Community Task Force.
"The task force's mission is to research and develop strategies to reduce the community's greenhouse gas emissions, seeks ways to use energy more efficiently across village operations; and, to identify areas on the village that may be vulnerable to the effects of climate change," according to a news release from the village.
Over the coming months, members of the task force will work alongside village staff and "local stakeholder gruops" to develop a "community-based Climate Smart Communities" strategy.
The release says the City of Ogdensburg, villages of Canton and Norwood and the Town of Potsdam have already adopted climate smart communities pledges.
The Department of Environmental Conservation's Office of Climate Change will hold an orientation program for task force members in mid-March, the release said.
