NORWOOD -- The Village of Norwood Board of Trustees has designated Tuesday, Nov. 17 as Ruth Garner Day for the former mayor of Potsdam who grew up in Norwood and turns 100 years old next week.
A tree dedication will take place in the downtown park between Park and Spring Streets at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration at the Municipal Building.
Mayor Tim Levison said the village has a special claim on Garner, who was born in Massena Nov. 18, 1915, but spent much of her childhood in Norwood, graduating from Norwood High School as valedictorian in 1933.
