GOUVERNEUR -- The village will receive more than $1 million from Albany for water and sewer upgrades.

The $1.6 million grant will pay for planning, design and construction of the Dorwin Street sanitary sewer connector and combined sewer separation project.

Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, says she applauds the state’s decision to award the cash.

“Reliable drinking water and wastewater infrastructure is essential to both the strength and the health of our communities,” she said in a prepared statement. “Not only does it ensure that people have access to clean water, it also helps to attract and grow businesses. I am pleased to see these investments, which will help make our communities better places to live, as well as spur economic growth.”

Her 48th Senate District includes parts of northern and western St. Lawrence County, including Gouverneur, Canton and Ogdensburg.
